Kokoro Restaurant | Bole: A Taste of Japan in Addis Ababa

This unique restaurant is owned by an Ethiopian who has lived in Japan, making him fluent in Japanese. His friendly and engaging personality, combined with his excellent communication skills, makes dining here a delightful experience.

Location and Ambiance

Kokoro Restaurant is located in the vibrant area of Bole in Addis Ababa. The restaurant offers a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a relaxed meal. The interior is clean and stylish, with an impressive display of wines that adds to the overall charm of the place.


What I Ate

The owner is very accommodating and creative, often preparing special dishes upon request. As a fan of their pasta, I usually order it when I visit. This time, the owner made a special Japanese-style pasta just for me, a dish not typically on the menu.

  • Japanese-Style Pasta: This dish was exceptionally delicious. The owner crafted it to suit my taste as a Japanese customer. The pasta featured ingredients like bacon, asparagus, shiitake mushrooms, and tomatoes, all harmoniously combined to create a wonderful flavor. The balance of all these ingredients was perfect, making it a delightful meal.

For dessert, I followed the owner's recommendation and tried the tiramisu.

  • Tiramisu: The tiramisu was not overly sweet and had a perfect balance of flavors. It was so delicious that it disappeared quickly! I highly recommend it.

I was thoroughly impressed with the Japanese-style pasta at Kokoro Restaurant. The combination of bacon, asparagus, shiitake mushrooms, and tomatoes created a flavorful and satisfying dish. The tiramisu was also a standout, with its perfectly balanced sweetness. The owner’s attention to detail and ability to cater to my preferences made the experience even more enjoyable. The clean and stylish interior, complemented by the impressive wine display, adds to the overall charm of the dining experience.
