Panda Private Kitchen: Authentic Chinese Dining in Bole, Addis Ababa

Introduction

Hello, food lovers! Welcome back to Muscle's Culinary Quest. Today, I’m excited to share my dining experience at Panda Private Kitchen, a unique Chinese restaurant located in the bustling Bole area of Addis Ababa. Originally a JICA dormitory, this place has been transformed into a cozy restaurant featuring traditional Chinese rotating tables and private rooms, making it perfect for group dining.

Location and Ambiance

Panda Private Kitchen is situated in Bole, making it easily accessible from the city center. The restaurant has a simple yet inviting interior with the added charm of traditional Chinese rotating tables, perfect for group dining. Additionally, private rooms offer a more intimate dining experience. One of the highlights is the availability of chilled lemon tea and green tea, a rarity in Ethiopia, enhancing the authentic Chinese dining experience.

What I Ate

During my visit, I tried several delicious dishes:

  • Egg and Vermicelli Stir-Fry: This dish was simple yet flavorful. The seasoning was spot on, providing a delicious umami taste that made me want to order it again.

  • Garlic Broccoli Stir-Fry
: A straightforward dish of broccoli stir-fried with garlic, but it was incredibly tasty. The garlic flavor was well-infused into the broccoli, making it juicy and perfectly seasoned.

  • Boiled Dumplings: These dumplings were bursting with meat juices, similar to xiaolongbao. The strong flavor of star anise added a distinctive and authentic touch.

  • Fried Rice: The portion size was substantial, easily enough for three people. It was lightly seasoned, making it a perfect accompaniment to the other flavorful dishes.

  • Spicy Stir-Fried Tofu: This dish featured two types of chili peppers and onions, making it very spicy and flavorful. It had an authentic taste and is highly recommended for those who enjoy spicy food.

  • Chinjao Rosu: This dish included celery, adding a unique twist to the traditional Chinese stir-fry. The combination of flavors was quite distinctive and enjoyable.

My Recommendation

Among the dishes I tried, the Garlic Broccoli Stir-Fry and the Egg and Vermicelli Stir-Fry stood out the most. The simplicity and perfect seasoning of the broccoli and the delicious flavor of the egg and vermicelli made these dishes exceptional.

The staff at Panda Private Kitchen were friendly and attentive. They were knowledgeable about the menu and provided helpful recommendations. Their quick and courteous service greatly enhanced the overall dining experience.

Panda Private Kitchen in Bole is an excellent place to enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine in Addis Ababa.
